2012 Topps Chrome Baseball Box Break Recap and Review

The smell of maple syrup has returned.  It’s not from sap flowing from trees, it’s from collectors ripping packs of 2012 Topps Chrome Baseball.  Anyone who has opened a pack knows what I’m talking about.  Like new car smell, the smell of freshly opened Chrome packs is unmistakable.  Chrome provides rainbow collectors plenty to chase with refractors of different colors and some of the best looking diecuts to come along this year.

Topps Chrome Baseball falls under our trading card category.  Each box contains 24 - 4 cards per packs with a promise of 2 autographs per box.

Here are some of the cards we pulled.

Base Set
Triple Crown winner, Miguel Carera, front and back

 Mike Trout, Paul Goldschmidt

Jose Bautista, Jered Weaver, Curtis Granderson

 Base Set Refractor Parallels
 Jesus Montero, Adrian Beltre

Allen Craig, Yadier Molina, Carlos Ruiz

Irving Falu, Jordany Valdespin, Jarrod Parker

 Xfractors
 Joey Votto, Shin-Soo Choo

 Mike Moustakas, Kyle Blanks

Color Refractors
Stephen Strasburg Blue #/199, Ichiro Sepia #/75

Dynamic Die Cuts
 Ryan Braun

The Hits - Autographs
Brad Peacock Auto, Drew Smyly Refractor Auto #/499

Overall Look
Other than the shiny and refractors of all kinds, these cards are based on the flagship release of Topps Baseball, so from a design level, it works well. The styling of the diecuts is phenomenal.  I only wish the “chrome curl” could be resolved.

Quality and Variety of Players.
There is a great mix of the veterans and rookies including some rookies who got the call up to the show late in the season.

Do the hits hold up?
Chrome on-card autos are a winner every year.  The top refractors, like the superfractors  are always in high demand.

Will you want to collect them all?
Whether you are looking for a complete base set, different color refractors to put together a rainbow or individual players for your PC, there is enough to collect her that is compelling enough to want them all. This is definitely a multi-box purchase.

Rating
