2012-13 Panini Totally Certified Basketball NBA Trading Cards Box Break Recap And Review

Panini has done some subtle design modifications to Totally Certified Basketball, taking what were already impressive cards and making them even more appealing. HRX video cards return Kobe Bryant and Kevin Durant returning for their second card along with Kyrie Irving and Anthony Davis who take the place of Blake Griffin and John Wall.  With plenty of rainbow collecting potential and a wide range of hit pulls, 2012-13 Panini Totally Certified Basketball makes a welcomed return after being absence from last year’s release calendar.

Totally Certified Basketball falls into our premium cards category. Each hobby box contains 6-5 card packs. Each box contains 3 autographs and 3 memorabilia cards.

Here are some of the cards we pulled.

Base Set
 John Wall, front and back
Derek Fisher, Chauncey Billups, Taj Gibson

Totally Red #/499
LeMarcus Aldridge, Grant Hill, Brandon Rush
Chandler Parsons, DeShawn Stevenson, Goran Dragic

 Totally Blue #/299
Andrew Nicholson, Bradley Beal, Wesley Johnson

This year in all of the Panini Basketball releases there will be a 5 card bonus pack top loaded in each box.  All cards will be part of the Kobe Bryant Anthology and cover his entire career with the Lakers. Here are the cards from our pack.
Card 142, front and back, Card 34

Card 123, Card 7, Card 49

The Hits

Memorabilia
Kemba Walker (Red), Joe Johnson (Red)
Danny Granger (Blue) #/99

Autographs
E'Twaun Moore Rookie Roll Call Auto, Draymond Green Rookie Roll Call (Red) #/279
Gail Goodrich Totally Signatures Auto #/49

The 3 Autographs and 3 Memorabilia cards account for all the stated hits in our box, so imagine our surprise when we realized there was an extra hit in our box.  It is not an Autograph and it is not a Memorabilia card but it is as big a hit as any of those. if not bigger.

Needless to say, this was a spectacular card to pull and we will share it with you when it arrives.

Overall Look
Shiny, bold colors and refined design are the defining characteristics of this year’s release. Flourishes of styled bordering make the single swatch memorabilia cards much more appealing. Unfortunately the rookie die cut autos are gone but the Rookie Roll Call autos are a fun design.

Quality and Variety of Players
While some of the die cutting has been removed from Totally Certified, the checklist seems to have been improved.  300 base, 100 rookies and a slew of veteran and retired stars autos make this year’s release much stronger.

Do the Hits satisfy?
Rookie autos are still on card.  Base cards are no longer numbered, only color parallels and for the memorabilia hits, the red versions are considered the base and so they are without numbering too.  Numbering for Memorabilia starts with blue versions.  and of course, pulling of the HRX video cards is amazing.

Will you keep coming back for more?
The broadened checklist makes Totally Certified on of those releases where it is easy to see multiple box purchases if your wallet can withstand it.

Rating
 4 1/2 out of 5

2012-13 Panini Totally Certified Basketball comes back strong, providing collectors a nice opportunity to pull some great cards.
