It was another banner year for NFL rookies. Here is a look at the accomplishments
of the top 3 draft picks
Andrew Luck, Robert Griffin III and Trent Richardson
Many figured it would take a while for the Indianapolis
Colts rebuild after the loss of Peyton Manning. But Andrew Luck found a way to lead the team to the post
season in his first year. He also
set a bunch of rookie passing records, including most passing yards (4,374) and
most 300-yard passing games (six). The Colts won 11 games under his leadership,
the most by a number 1 pick in the modern draft.
Robert Griffin III of the Washington Redskins set his share
of rookie records too. RG3 ended
the season with a passer rating of 102.4, the highest for a rookie and third
highest for a starter in the league.
One of the main reasons his passer rating was so good us the other
rookie record he set for lowest percentage of passes intercepted. Throwing on 5 interceptions for the
year, RG3 finished with only 1.3 percent of all of his passes picked off. He also racked up 815 rushing yards, placing him 20th in league and breaking the rookie rushing record for a Quarterback, set last year by Cam Newton. His completion percentage was 65.6%,
the fourth highest in the NFL this year.
Trent Richardson of the Cleveland Browns surpassed Hall of
Famer Jim Brown to set a team record for most rushing yards in a season. He also set the team record for rushing
touchdowns with 11, which was good enough to place him tied for 5th in the
league with Doug Martin and Marshawn Lynch. The amazing thing is he did all of this while playing with
broken ribs since week 6 of the season.
