2014 Topps Opening Day Baseball MLB Trading Cards Box Break Recap And Review

As in past years, Opening Day essentially mimics Topps Series 1 & 2 for base card design, but then offers a lot of great inserts.  At its low price point, Opening Day is a bargain that always seems to hit its mark.  While it might skew towards younger collectors, there is still enough here for experienced collectors.  2014 Topps Opening Day Baseball is a lot of fun and perfect for set building.

Opening Day could easily fit into both our fun cards and trading cards categories, but for the purpose of this review, we will classify Opening Day as fun cards.  Opening Day can be found in many different retail configurations.  We opened a complete box which contains 36 packs with 7 cards per pack.  There are relics and autographs to be found in Opening Day, but they are rare.

Now here is the really cool part.  As I mentioned earlier relics and autographs are rare to find in Opening Day, but we found one.  As if that were not cool enough, we also found one from one of the toughest categories to get.  It's a Mascot Autograph with stated odds of finding 1 in every 555 packs!

Overall Look

This year's design is solid and the Opening Day logo is a nice compliment to the overall look. The inserts are fun and well designed.  Love the Mascot, Between Innings and Opening Day Stars 3D Cards.

Quality and Variety of Players

The Opening Day base set is a third of the size of its big brother Series 1 & 2 at 220 cards, so you are getting the best of the best.

Are these cards fun?

They are lots of fun.  The Opening Day amps up the fun factor, which is great for kids but also reminds seasoned collectors that trading cards are supposed to be fun.

Will you want to collect them all?

At only 220 base cards, the set is easy enough to obtain making this a highly desirable product for budding set builders.  The inserts are compelling enough to want to obtain them all too. If you want to go for it all, there are also photo variations to chase.
